About Monika

Monika is a foodie at heart. She has lived in India, Bangladesh, China and now NZ is her home for the last decade. Monika enjoys teaching adults and children of all ages and ethnicities, how to cook tasty and healthy Indian dishes, snacks, entrees, main dishes, curries, chapatis, paranthas, and desserts, either vegetarian or vegan, dairy or non-dairy, as per people’s choices. She is also an experienced early childhood teacher and good with children. Since her son was 4 years old, she has been teaching him cooking, how to peel & slice vegetables safely, use a pan to make an omelet, saute vegetables, use a blender or microwave safely. At age 10 now, he has already participated in 3 cooking competitions on his own. Monika believes cooking is an essential life skill and sets children up for a healthy lifestyle from a young age. Cooking food is an art and science, hence the name Food Art Science

What some of FAS attendees had to say

“I saw Monika demonstrate her Spinach and Kale Saag at the Christchurch Vegan Expo. I used to make a similar type of dish but it seemd to be missing something. Since learning from Monika this has now become a firm favourite in our household. It is one my daughter would eat every night given half a chance. Monika has a way of teaching that makes cooking fun and simple but there is alot of flavour. I would absolutely recommend any of her cooking classes.” – Lisa

“I had my 1st class this week and absolutely enjoyed it. Not only did I learn cooking a new food, I also learnt about growing produce from parts of the greens that I'd usually throw away.  I learnt the difference between store bought sauce and making my own. So helpful and a huge difference in the taste.  I can't wait to go again.” – Sonia

“Excellent class, thoroughly enjoyed learning how to make Aloo Paratha. My family and I love eating it and now know how to make it properly! Thanks so much Monika, you are very skilled and are a great teacher, appreciate all your help.” – Vernie
